Please describe your diversity programs and initiatives We are committed to ensuring everyone at BD&P can achieve their full personal and professional potential. Our goal is to ensure all firm members feel respected and encouraged to be their authentic selves in the workplace and have equal opportunities to succeed. We value the different perspectives brought about by a workforce of people with diverse backgrounds and experiences. A collaborative environment where different views are new ideas are respected means we can offer a more valuable articling program to our students and a more innovative service to our clients.

Our Diversity and Inclusion Committee comprises a diverse group of lawyers and staff. They work together to establish a focus on inclusion across all our practice areas and committees and roll out diversity-related initiatives. Examples of such initiatives include our community partnership with Calgary Pride where we participate in the weeklong celebrations and walk in the annual Pride Parade in celebration and support of LGBTQ+ rights. We also work with the Calgary Immigrant Women's Association (CIWA) to deliver a Practicum Program designed to prepare their clients for work in Canada. In each of the last five years, we have hosted a number of practicum students. Our partnership with CIWA has assisted us in beginning an articling program stream for foreign trained women lawyers from underrepresented groups.

We are members of the Law Firm Diversity and Inclusion Network and were one of the first law firms to commit to the Law Society of Alberta's Justicia Project Phase 2 - a voluntary program aimed at retaining women lawyers in private practice by developing resources and adopting programs and policies to support women lawyers.
