| Description of the second year summer program |
Our summer program offers a supportive environment, quality mentoring, first-rate training, challenging work assignments, transparent feedback and social programs. Our program is designed to (i) integrate students into the firm, (ii) provide the training and support needed for students to have a successful summer and to build the foundations for success as an articling student and associate, and (iii) provide a realistic view of what it is like to work at a large firm.
Our summer students work closely with lawyers who allocate the work directly. Mandates include: research and drafting of legal memos, working on transactions (due diligence, closing, etc.), collaboration in the preparation of articles and conferences, summary of recent case law, presentations to practice groups. The students are invited to attend client meetings as well as examinations, mediations and Court representations. A mentor is assigned to each summer student and the students receive a formal review towards the end of the summer work term. |

The summer program begins with an intensive week of orientation, training sessions and social events that provides students with the key skills required to transition from being a law student to working at a law firm.
Our summer program is non-rotational, which provides our students with the opportunity to gain experience in a variety of practice areas. As our students take their first steps in their legal career, we encourage them to seek out broad exposure to our work and our lawyers. This flexibility provides students with the ability to spend their summer exploring different areas of practice. Over the summer, students have the opportunity to gain experience in a variety of areas including business law, M&A, capital markets and securities, litigation, employment law, financial services and insolvency, tax, competition law, privacy, and commercial real estate. |
| How many weeks is the second year summer program? | Around 12 weeks |

| Description of articling program |
We see our articling program as a natural extension of our summer program. Our articling students continue to develop their skills and knowledge and assume increasing responsability on matters. On-going training is offered throughout the articles. Articling students also have the opportunity to make representations before the Courts and plead motions.
We do not have a formal rotation system. This allows for students to become familiar with diverse areas of law, to work with lawyers with different practices and to be involved in files for a longer period of time. We provide articling students with exposure to the areas of business law we practice, including corporate and commercial law, M&A, capital markets and securities, litigation, employment law, tax, financial services and insolvency, privacy, and commercial real estate. By working on a broad range of matters and with lawyers with different practices, students acquire the experience necessary to help them discover what particular areas they want to focus on for the future. A Maître de stage is assigned to each articling student and provides guidance and support. Articling students also benefit from written feedback during their articling term. |
